Editorial Policy
This policy explains how RoofTentAtlas content is sourced, verified, corrected and updated.
Source hierarchy
- National or local government and official public bodies.
- Official tourism, road, forestry and nature-conservation agencies.
- Official campsite websites and their published rules.
- Vehicle, roof rack and roof tent manufacturer documentation.
- Reputable industry bodies.
- Community reports — used only as supplementary user-experience context and never as the sole basis for a legal or safety conclusion.
Verification method
For spots, we compare published fields against the official campsite website and public rules, and record the source URL and a last-verified date. Legal and safety statements are based on official sources where possible; they are never based solely on forums, blogs, AI summaries, undated aggregators or search-result snippets.
Correction process
Corrections can be submitted through the Submit a Spot form and the community tools. Each correction is reviewed against sources before it is published.
Update process
Content is re-checked against its sources periodically. The last-verified or last-reviewed date on a page indicates when the information was last reviewed.
AI-assisted content policy
Where AI assistance is used to draft or organise text, a human editor reviews the result for accuracy, and every factual claim is checked against the listed sources before publication.
Commercial independence
RoofTentAtlas is editorially independent. We do not accept payment to alter facts, and we do not fabricate reviews or ratings.
Affiliate disclosure
RoofTentAtlas does not currently use affiliate links. If that changes, it will be disclosed on the relevant pages.
