Who we are

RoofTentAtlas is a rooftop-tent destination database available at https://rooftentatlas.com.

Account information

When you create an account, we store the username, display name, email address and password hash needed to operate that account. Passwords are processed by WordPress and are not stored as plain text.

Saved spots

Destinations you save are stored with your account so they can appear in your personal atlas. Saved lists are private and are not displayed publicly.

Destination submissions

When you submit a destination, we store the information in a private moderation queue. We also retain your account ID or submitted email address so an editor can ask for clarification. Submitter email addresses are not published.

Reviews and comments

When members submit reviews, we collect the review, rating, account information, IP address and browser user-agent data used by WordPress for moderation and spam protection. Approved reviews display the member’s public display name, rating and text. Email addresses are not displayed.

Security and rate limiting

Short-lived one-way hashes derived from IP addresses may be stored temporarily to limit repeated registration and destination-submission attempts. These limits normally expire after one hour.

Cookies

WordPress uses essential cookies for authentication, account sessions, security and interface preferences. RoofTentAtlas does not currently use advertising cookies.

Embedded and external content

Destination pages can link to campsite operators, OpenStreetMap and other authoritative sources. Those services operate under their own privacy policies. Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap infrastructure and requests may disclose standard connection information such as an IP address.

How long we retain data

Account data is retained while the account remains active. Approved reviews and destination records may be retained as part of the public database. Pending or rejected material may be retained for moderation, audit and abuse-prevention purposes. Temporary rate-limit records expire automatically.

Your choices

You can remove saved spots from your account at any time. You may request access to, correction of or deletion of personal account data, subject to information that must be retained for security, legal or administrative purposes. Requests can be made through the site’s account and submission channels.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when RoofTentAtlas adds or changes community, analytics or operational features. The published page contains the current version.
