Roof tent travel in Slovenia

Use designated campsites or places that explicitly permit an overnight stay.

Slovenia is compact and easy to explore by vehicle, but camping and overnight stays must use places intended or authorised for that purpose. The official rules distinguish access to nature from permission to camp or sleep in a vehicle.

Overnight and camping rules

Roof tent overview

Roof tents are accommodated at Slovenian campsites with vehicle pitches. Camping Bled on Lake Bled is our verified example, with tent, caravan and motorhome pitches, free Wi-Fi and a shop.

Overnight stays

Slovenia's official Natura 2000 guidance says overnighting in public places or other accessible places not intended for that purpose is not allowed. For a roof tent, use a campsite or another place that explicitly permits the vehicle and the overnight stay.

Wild camping

Official Slovenian guidance states that camping in a public place not designated for camping, or on private property without the owner's or occupier's consent, is not allowed. Protected areas may impose additional restrictions, so check the destination's own rules as well.

Driving and access

A compact motorway network plus scenic mountain and coastal roads. A vignette is required for motorways.
